One Person, Many Roles: Coach, Mentor, Sponsor.
I'm realising that being a coach, mentor, or sponsor isn't about having different titles-it's about being present in the way someone needs when they need it.
Over the years, I've served as a business coach and mentor to many, and I've found I'm essentially the same person, just using different skills based on where someone is in their journey. Sometimes I listen and ask questions, other times I share my experiences, and occasionally I put my name on the line to help open doors.
Each role holds significance and power. I've been fortunate to have people fill these roles for me as well. I still remember how crucial Steve Kaufman's guidance was when I transitioned from one major job to an even bigger opportunity. He helped me navigate tricky regulations, complex legal matters, and theemotional challenge of closing one chapter while starting another.
He once said, "Take-offs and landings are the most perilous times in your career flight path." He was spot on. In those critical moments, having someone supportive-coaching, mentoring, or sponsoring-can truly change everything.
So maybe now's the time to reflect:
Am I providing what someone else needs?
And do I have what I need right now?
