Women can spend the last 30 years of their lives dying-or choose to live vital, unbreakable lives...
The truth is, women often live longer than men, but those extra years aren't always fulfilling. Too many end up frail, with preventable illnesses, or losing independence.
In her important new book, Wright argues that we shouldn't just chase a longer life-we should aim for a better one. Her daily plan is a simple framework she calls FACE your future:
F - Flexibility. Joints, tendons and ligaments shorten with time. Pilates, yoga, tai chi, and dynamic stretching all help.
A - Aerobic. An 80/20 approach: mostly low-intensity activity, with about 20% higher-intensity effort.
C - Carry a load. Strength and power matter. Fewer reps, heavier weights-building resilience for the decades ahead.
E - Equilibrium. Balance and foot speed. Because a single fall can change the rest of a life.
I found this incredibly powerful. It resonates deeply with my own journey. At 63, I'm focusing on yoga and Pilates for balance and flexibility, strengthening my core, cycling and running for aerobic stamina, and yes- dancing with my grandchildren while lifting kettlebells so I can keep carrying them all.
For me, the message is clear: we can choose to live healthy, joyful, unbreakable lives well into the future. But it takes daily commitment. I, for one, am determined not to die without a fight.
